Species: Suchomimus tenerensis Age: Lower Cretaceous (Aptian-Albian) Formation: Elrhaz Formation Provenance: Gadoufaoua, Ténéré Desert, Niger Size: ±29.4mm (1.15") Condition: No repair or restorations; stabilized with Polyvinyl butyral (PVB) in acetone |
This is a listing for 1 partial Suchomimus tooth. While not complete, the preservation is great for this deposit as well as some serrations still intact with nice enamel texture.
The presence of serrations are a diagnostic characteristic to look for in baryonychines spinosaurids like Suchomimus and Baryonyx. It is still unknown if there is more than one spinosaurid species in the Elrhaz Formation like in many other deposits with spinosaur genera.
