Species: Basilosauridae indet. Age: Upper Eocene (Priabonian) Formation: Samlat Formation Provenance: Dakhla, Sahara Desert, Morocco Size: ±95.3mm (3.75") Condition: Likely some repair, but no restorations; has unknown glue |
A decent basilosaurid premolar tooth from the Dakhla region of Morocco. This tooth morphology is one of the more desirable types of teeth from this deposit. While most teeth are heavily restored and composited, these are in their natural state, albeit, with some glue to keep the pieces in place. This tooth can potentially be professionally restored.
Originally, these teeth were attributed to Basilosaurus itself, but the Moroccan specimens may belong to a different genus.
